As per a July 3 report by Korean media outlet Star Today, the Seoul court has scheduled a court-mediated discussion between both parties, potentially requiring the K-pop idols to attend in person.
In place of the previous plan for a full trial, the discussion is scheduled for July 21 at 9:40 AM KST (6:10 AM IST) and is intended to explore a mutual agreement. This change followed the second-level court's June 16 decision to switch the lawsuit to a settlement format. Although formal confirmation of V and Jungkook's court attendance is still pending, this session might not be exempt from personal appearances like previous ones.
Under the direction of the court, the goal of the court-mediated discussion is to assist in reaching a mutually agreeable resolution. According to Article 28 of the South Korean Civil Procedure Act, if the parties agree, the settlement will have the same legal force as a final judgement.
This occurs months after Sojang, the owner of the YouTube channel Taldeok Camp, was convicted in February 2025 of posting 23 false pieces of content between October 2021 and June 2023 in order to defame the BTS members. She was ordered to pay 76 million KRW (roughly USD 53,000) in damages by the 12th Civil Division of the Seoul Western District Court.
V and Jungkook each received 10 million KRW and 15 million KRW of the total award, while BTS' agency BIGHIT MUSIC was given 51 million KRW. The court changed the initial damages amount of 90 million KRW in the January 2025 lawsuit.
Meanwhile, the news arrives just days after BTS confirmed their long-awaited reunion during a Weverse livestream on July 1. According to San Francisco Chronicle, this marks the group's return after a hiatus of over three years, further heightening global anticipation for what lies ahead in their journey.
